Aston Villa vs Tottenham: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 16th February 2020
Kick off at 2pm GMT
Venue: Villa Park

Match Preview:

Relegation is a real concern for Aston Villa who come into this game at the weekend in 17th place and just have a 1 point safety gap. Form has been mixed but they have just one win from their last four and their last game ended in a loss against fellow struggler's Bournemouth. That was a big blow to Villa.

Home form simply hasn’t been good enough and they have lost 5 at Villa Park, also they have lost 3 of their last five games here, which does not bode well for this tough game.

Tottenham can smell a Champions League place, they could smell it before Manchester City’s Champions League ban news came through and after they can taste it. The club have had their up’s and downs with Jose Mourinho but they got a terrific result in their last league game beating the champions 2-0. Tottenham are in 6th place and a win here would take them to 5th displacing Sheffield United.

Maybe form is coming to Spurs now who have been erratic in the past few months, but they have gone their last 3 games unbeaten and won their last two. Away from home the club have been far from great but have lost just one game from their past four.

Team News:

Aston Villa: Keinan Davis has been ruled out for 2-3 weeks with a hamstring injury. Daniel Drinkwater will be assessed as he had a calf injury.

Tottenham: Juan Foyth has been ruled out with a groin injury. Erik Lamela could make a return after suffering a groin injury at the beginning of the month.

Aston Villa vs Tottenham Prediction:

Tottenham will have a big second wind up them with the news that even 5th could be good enough for a Champions League place plus they come here on form. The good news is that the club have a fantastic record over Aston Villa and are simply a much better team. Villa will be up against it and make no mistake this isn’t the type of match you want to play when you’re 17th. We can only see an away win here and that will be one of our choices. Get on Steve Bergwijn to have a good game again for Spurs after his brilliant debut goal against Manchester City.
