Aston Villa vs Liverpool: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 4th October 2020
Kick off at 7:15pm BST
Venue: Villa Park

Match Preview:

After struggling for much of last season and surviving by the skin of their teeth Aston Villa have perhaps been an early surprise package this season as they have won their opening two games.

Dean Smith’s side are in 5th place with maximum points after beating Sheffield United and Fulham. They have scored 4 goals and are yet to concede, but many will think their status will change for the worse after this Sunday evening fixture.

Liverpool have roared like champions since the season kicked off and have 9 points from 3 games. Their opening game was a surprise only in that they conceded 3 goals against Leeds, but at the end of the day they still won the game.

Other Premier League teams should be afraid though, as the Reds have just beaten two potential teams that could well fill up the top 4 places in Chelsea and Arsenal. Not only did they win those but scored 5 goals in the process, and whilst they might not be playing their best football, even good football at Liverpool right now is winning games. A win here would keep them joint top in theory, a few goals to boot could put them in 1st place.

Still, despite happy times in the league there would have been a tinge of disapointement for Jurgen Klopp’s team who were knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Arsenal in midweek on penalties.

Team News:

Aston Villa: Kortney Hause has a muscle injury but will face a late test ahead of the game. Wesley is still out with a long term knee injury.

Liverpool: Jordan Henderson has recovered from injury but has some fitness issues and might not be ready for this game, or could start from the bench either way he will be assessed. Sadio Mane is out as he has coronavirus. Thiago Alcantara also has the virus and is self isolating.

Aston Villa vs Liverpool Prediction:

Aston Villa have nothing to lose in this game and the fact they have started well means that they will be fearless and they will have their chances. Liverpool will have to be at their best to get something from this game and even if they can find a way to win, which of course they can the goal margin could be close.

As Liverpool have been so superior over other clubs in the league in the last 12-18 months it means that the majority of their opposition gets a good value price on them even in a handicap. However it's only good value if you feel they can cause an upset, and it's very difficult to back against Liverpool at the moment, therefore a -1 asian handicap for Liverpool might well be the way to go. We expect Liverpool to win but also expect Villa to show some skill, fight and passion.

Aston Villa vs Liverpool Betting Tips:
