Aston Villa vs Everton: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Thursday 13th May 2021
Kick off at 6pm BST
Venue: Villa Park

Match Preview:

No you are not having deja vu, Aston Villa and Everton did play each other in the league earlier this month, May 1st to be exact. Now they will play the reverse fixture less than two weeks on from that date.

The blame is predictably down to Covid-19 that stopped Villa from playing Everton earlier in the season and thus the fixtures have had to change and been congested as a result. Everton lost at home 2-1 a couple of weeks ago and so will be looking to avenge that result.

Everton have a good chance too given how well they have performed away from home. They have beaten Arsenal and West Ham in recent weeks. The Arsenal victory was the first for Everton in London against the Gunners in 25 years and West Ham have the 2nd best home record in the league and had beaten Everton in Merseyside earlier in the season. A win here could well ignite Everton’s ambitions for a top four finish but they would need plenty of results they have no destiny over to go there way, and in truth the club would do well to qualify for next season’s Europa League, still they may as well try and have a strong finish to the season.

Aston Villa are seven points behind the visitors and back in 11th place and European football looks a distant dream for Dean Smith’s side now. However a chance does remain but it’s hard to disguise the fact that the club have been poor in the second half of the season and they come into this game with one win from their last five.

Last weekend Villa took the lead at home to Manchester United but lost that game 3-1, and they get the chance to remain at home again. Overall home form is not good with their most common result being defeat, which has occurred on 8 occasions. Just 4 points have been won at home from their last 15. The club seem to have felt the loss to injury of Jack Grealish heavily and have looked disjointed this year after such a strong start to the season.

Team News:

Aston Villa: Jack Grealish will be assessed for his fitness and is 50/50 to make this game. Morgan Sanson will also be assessed.

Everton: James Rodriguez is 50/50 to make this game after his calf injury and will face a late test.

Aston Villa vs Everton Prediction:

We will back Everton to win but cover the draw on the refund, they have been so solid on the road and will be going for their 3rd clean sheet in a row on their trips. It's also good for Dominic Calvert-Lewin to have scored and got the deciding goal in the clubs last victory over West Ham and they will be hoping that the striker has got his mojo back and can have a strong finish to the season.

Everton have come unstuck against Villa recently and seem due a win and if they can be as stubborn as they were against West Ham then Everton pose a real danger to Villa. We must also remember that the home side have been very poor this year and based on the last 10 games would be in 17th place.
