Arsenal vs Man City: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 21st February 2021
Kick off at 4:30pm GMT
Venue: Emirates Stadium

Match Preview:

Though Arsenal are struggling this season and Manchester City are looking like champions-elect this is still a big fixture that will have football fans not just in England glued to their televisions and we expect to see a very entertaining game.

Arsenal will be the underdogs even at home but they can never be counted out of the big games and it will be interesting to see how Mikel Arteta who knows City so well sets up his team to face them once again. Last summer Arsenal stunned Manchester City and beat them in the FA Cup but at the end of last year City came to the Emirates and won 4-1 and that will be fresh in the minds of the Arsenal players coming into this game.

Form for Arsenal has not been great, although last weekend they were at their attacking best as they beat Leeds 4-2. There was joy for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang who has had a poor season by his usual high standards and he scored a hat-trick. However cynics will point out that Leeds’ game plays right into the hands of the Gunners just like it did when Manchester United beat Leeds 6-2 earlier in the season. Win was still good for the club and would have hopefully have reinstalled much needed confidence for Aubameyang.

Arsenal are in 10th but if Tottenham and Aston Villa lose their games they could climb to 8th with victory here. Recent home form has been good with no defeats in their last five games and the Gunners have only conceded 2 goals at home in their last 4 matches.

Manchester City have won 12 league games in a row, that is consistency on a different level and no Premier League team has been able to get near it. City come into this weekend a huge 10 points in front of Manchester United and Leicester although that may have been reduced to 7 points if Leicester have beaten Aston Villa. But there looks like no catching City now.

Last weekend it was Everton’s turn and City won 3-1 away from home, the previous week it was another 3 goals against Tottenham, then 4 goals at Liverpool and so on. City look relentless in a season which could have, at one point, have been a laboured one for the club but since December they have looked untouchable.

Pep Guardiola’s side have the 2nd best away record in the league where they have earned 27 points from 36, winning 8 games and losing just once. They have the joint 2nd most goals on the road with 24 and have conceded the least amount of goals with 8.

Team News:

Arsenal: Thomas Partey is likely to miss this game with an ongoing hamstring injury. He is the only Arsenal player expected to be missing.

Manchester City: Ilkay Gundogan had to miss the Everton game due to a groin injury but is expected to be back for this one though will have a late assessment. Natahn Ake is back in training after being out for an unspecified reason but is expected to miss this match.

Arsenal vs Man City Head to Head:

Last season Manchester City won this fixture 3-0.

Manchester City have won the last 7 league meetings between the sides in a row.

In the league Arsenal haven’t beaten Manchester City at home since 2015.

There is an 80% chance to see over 2.5 goals.

Arsenal vs Man City Prediction:

Manchester City should be taken on to win this game the question is if you take a little risk that they will start strong and back them to be winning at half time for a better price? Of note in the last 4 league games to take place at Arsenal, Manchester City have been leading all of them at half time, that’s food for thought.

Arsenal of course despite their troubles have real quality in the team and they come into this game almost injury free. They will create chances and can have a say in the match. Though the way City are playing you feel that they can only defeat themselves by putting in a sub-par performance and that doesn’t look likely. Remember Guardiola will want to get one over his former assistant too just to remind him again who’s boss. Of course there is no malice intended but when the game kicks off Guardiola and Arteta will have no love lost between them.
