Arsenal vs Man City: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 15th December 2019
Kick off at 4.30pm GMT
Venue: Emirates Stadium

Match Preview:

A mouth watering match awaits us on Sunday when Arsenal take on Manchester City at the Emirates.

Arsenal drew 2-2 in midweek in the Europa League against Standard Liege and they have qualified for the knock out stages of the competition, so job done on that front.

In the league Arsenal beat West Ham 3-1 to record their first victory in over two months. The question is has this victory sparked the fire in the players or was it simply a win against a team who are in poorer form than themselves?

Victory for the Gunners should take them up a couple of places from 9th and they come into this game 7 points adrift of a top 4 position. At home Arsenal have lost just one game, although it was their last match which ended in a 2-1 loss against Brighton. The Gunners have not won at home for 4 games, their last win came at the beginning of October against Bournemouth.

Manchester City are in poor form for their usual high standards. They have won 7 points from their last 15 on offer, and have lost 2 matches from their last 5 games. City lost their last match, which was against Manchester United and they are now 17 points behind league leaders Liverpool. It does seem like City have no chance to win the league this season and yet manager Pep Guardiola is not going to give up the fight just yet, but drop more points on Sunday and he might as well.

Though it’s not shocking that Liverpool are in 1st place it might be a surprise to see City in 3rd place after such an incredible season and also to see that they are six points behind Leicester coming into this weekend. City’s away form is not good with 1 win from their last 3 matches though overall they have won 5 from 8 games and are scoring over 2 goals a game on average.

Team News:

Arsenal: Hector Bellerin has pulled his hamstring but he will face a late test for this game. Nicolas Pepe has some bruising to his leg but he is being tipped to be fine for this match. Kieran Tierney has a shoulder injury and looks set to miss this match. Granit Xhaka is out with a head injury

Manchester City: Sergio Aguero has a groin injury and looks set to miss this match, however there has been no confirmation. Ederson is ill and remains 50/50 for this game. David Silva has a knock and is 50/50 for this match. John Stones is out with a hamstring injury

Arsenal vs Man City Head to Head:

Manchester City won this game 2-0 last season.

Manchester City have won the last 4 meetings in a row.

Arsenal have not beaten Manchester City in the league since 2015.

There is an 80% chance to see over 2.5 goals.

Arsenal vs Man City Prediction:

Normally this match would be very easy to predict and that would be for Manchester City to win but the club come here with some lingering doubts and also some injuries. Both Sergio Aguero and David Silva could be missing for the club and that is a big loss. At the same time Arsenal are not in good form but they should rise to the occasion for this game and at home will be looking to finally end City’s chances of a league title. Arsenal need to smell blood, the example being Chelsea’s recent blip, but it is difficult to have complete confidence in this side. Therefore we will back Man City to win on the asian handicap as they might well just relax and play very attacking football as they have nothing to lose now with such a large gap to Liverpool. We also expect Gabriel Jesus to get on the scoresheet, some regular game time has given him a bit of form with 5 goals in the last 3 games in all competitions.

Arsenal vs Man City Betting Tips:

Asian handicap (-1 Man City) at 1.61

Anytime goalscorer: Gabriel Jesus at 1.86
