Arsenal vs Crystal Palace: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Thursday 14th January 2021
Kick off at 8pm GMT
Venue: Emirates Stadium

Match Preview:

Instead of us talking about Arsenal in crisis coming into this London derby we are instead praising them and the Gunners seem to have turned their fortunes around. Mikel Arteta’s side have won 4 games in a row (3 in the league and one in the FA Cup) and spirits are high coming into this home game with Crystal Palace.

At the weekend Arsenal beat Newcastle 2-0 although it was a game that had to be settled in extra time. But Arsenal were far the superior team and under fire striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored the winner, that should do wonders for his confidence.

In the league Arsenal have climbed up to 11th and lost just once in their past 5 games. They are only 3 points behind Chelsea now. At home the Gunners have lost 50% of their games and only scored 9 goals but they have gone their last 2 games unbeaten with their last match at the Emirates ending in a 3-1 victory over Chelsea.

Crystal Palace are in 13th place and just one point behind their hosts. The club won their last game beating Sheffield United 2-0 but in the FA Cup at the weekend they lost against Wolves.

Recent form has not been great with just 5 points earned from their last 15 and away from home they have lost 3 from their last five and Palace lost their last away game 3-0 at Aston Villa.

Team News:

Arsenal: Gabriel looks like he will return for this match after he had Coronavirus. He needs to face a late assessment though. Gabriel Martinelli is 50/50 to return after his recent minor ankle injury. Thomas Partey has been pencilled in to return from this game after a long spell on the sidelines.

Crystal Palace: Gary Cahill is touch and go after recovering from his hamstring injury and will face a late test. Scott Dann has the same problem and will also be assessed. Jeffrey Schlupp is ruled out with his hamstring, Mamadou Sakho has a thigh strain and is a doubt.

Arsenal vs Crystal Palace Head to Head:

Last season this game finished 2-2.

3 of the last four league games have ended in a draw.

It’s been 5 games in the league since Arsenal beat Crystal Palace.

The last six games in a row has seen both teams to score.

Arsenal vs Crystal Palace Prediction:

Crystal Palace are a good side but their form isn’t the best and they are carrying many injuries coming into this game. They have countless other long term injuries and Roy Hodgson has been very unlucky this season. True they have Christian Benteke and Wilfried Zaha who will be a danger up front but they look really up against it here.

Arsenal are in good form and they are finding goals too. Being at home and being that it has been such a long time since they beat Palace we can see them not only winning this game but doing it in style. We can have some caution because the fear is that Arsenal could go back to their dreadful form of earlier in the season, it can’t be ruled out. But when you see how they have climbed up the table and could still finish in a European place surely there has to be some spark and belief in the team.

Arsenal have been poor at home this season in a stadium where they are usually so solid, this could be the game that signals a real statement of intent that indeed the Gunners are back.
