Arsenal vs Bournemouth: Preview and Prediction

England Premier League
Sunday 6th October 2019
Kick off at 2pm BST
Venue: Emirates Stadium

Match Preview:

With many changes to his side Arsenal swept past Standard Liege in the Europa League on Thursday winning 4-0 and had the advantage of being at home, so no European travel as they head into this encounter on Sunday.

The Gunners have won just one game in their past five matches but at the same time they are not losing games either. They have lost just once this season and had some tough fixtures recently includng playing in the derby against Tottenham and last Monday against Manchester United, both of which finished in draws.

Unai Emery should be relatively happy that the club are in 4th place and they could go 3rd by the end of the weekend. Only 5 teams in the Premier League are unbeaten at home and one of those is Arsenal with two wins and a draw. They will start naturally as the odds on favourites to win this match.

Bournemouth started slow but have built up well and have been one of the most in form sides in the league. They are in 8th position and would go past Arsenal with a win. Their last game ended in a 2-2 draw against West Ham. Away from home Eddie Howe’s side would be ranked as the 4th best team in the league beating the likes of Southampton and Aston Villa, but they have lost to Leicester with that game finishing 3-1. They haven’t faced a potential top six side yet on the road and this will be a major test.

Team News:

Arsenal: The Gunners have no fresh injuries coming into this game with only long term absentee Alexandre Lacazette out until the end of the month with an ankle injury

Bournemouth: Ryan Fraser should be back in contention after illness. Chris Mepham is out with a calf injury

Arsenal vs Bournemouth Head to Head:

Last season Arsenal destroyed Bournemouth in this fixture winning 5-1.

Arsenal have won 3 of the last 4 meetings.

5 of the last 6 meetings has seen both teams to score.

The teams have only played each other 9 times in their history with Arsenal losing once but remain undefeated in their home games.

Arsenal vs Bournemouth Prediction:

It looks unlikely that Arsenal won’t walk away with all three points here. But in their last home game in the league they could have lost when they were 2-1 down to Aston Villa and a man sent off. What was interesting is that Villa played a 4-3-3 that day, a formation that no team would have played away to Arsenal, it was clear that with an attacking set up it actually made the home side have to adjust to that and for much of the game they struggled.

In Bournemouth’s last away game they played a standard 4-4-2, will Howe risk two up front against Arsenal, most teams bar the top 2 would come here and play only one up front, if they do that this could be a long afternoon for them, the evidence is there that the best form of defence against this Arsenal team is to attack them. However we will back Arsenal to get a positive result, they rarely lose at home and have a fantastic record over the visitors.
